School Curriculum Policy

Last updated: 17 February 2026

1. Introduction

Richmond Online School follows the Cambridge International curriculum, offering Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge A-Level qualifications. This policy outlines our curriculum structure, delivery methods, and commitment to providing a broad, balanced, and rigorous education for all students.

2. Curriculum Framework

Our curriculum is designed to meet the requirements of Cambridge Assessment International Education. We offer:

  • Cambridge IGCSE: 17 subjects available for students typically aged 14 to 16, covering core academic disciplines and a range of elective subjects.
  • Cambridge A-Levels: 14 subjects available for students typically aged 16 to 19, providing specialist study and preparation for university entry.

Students are guided to select a balanced combination of subjects that supports their academic development and future aspirations. Most IGCSE students take 5 to 7 subjects, while A-Level students typically study 3 to 4 subjects.

3. Teaching and Learning

All lessons at Richmond Online School are delivered live online by qualified, specialist teachers. Our teaching approach includes:

  • Interactive live lessons with small class sizes for personalised attention.
  • Recorded lessons available on demand for revision and catch-up.
  • Regular homework, assignments, and formative assessments to reinforce learning.
  • Access to an AI-powered study assistant for additional practice and support.
  • Personal tutor support to guide academic progress and subject choices.

4. Assessment and Reporting

Students are assessed through a combination of formative and summative assessments:

  • Termly progress assessments to track academic development.
  • Mock examinations to prepare students for official Cambridge exams.
  • Regular progress reports sent to parents and guardians.
  • Parent-teacher consultation sessions held each term.

At the end of the course, students sit official Cambridge examinations at approved centres worldwide. Results are externally assessed and graded by Cambridge Assessment International Education.

5. Curriculum Review

Richmond Online School reviews its curriculum annually to ensure it remains aligned with Cambridge International standards, reflects current best practice in online education, and meets the needs of our diverse student body. Feedback from students, parents, and staff is incorporated into the review process.
