1. Introduction
Richmond Online School is committed to creating a positive, respectful, and supportive learning environment for all students. This Behaviour & Conduct Policy sets out the standards of behaviour expected from all students and the procedures we follow when these standards are not met. The policy applies to all students during live lessons, in school communications, and when using school platforms.
2. Expected Standards of Behaviour
All students at Richmond Online School are expected to:
- Treat teachers, staff, and fellow students with courtesy and respect.
- Arrive on time to scheduled live lessons and engage actively in learning.
- Complete assignments and assessments by the deadlines set by teachers.
- Use appropriate language and behaviour in all online interactions.
- Maintain academic integrity by submitting original work and not engaging in plagiarism or cheating.
- Follow instructions from teachers and school staff promptly and respectfully.
3. Positive Behaviour Recognition
Richmond Online School believes in recognising and rewarding positive behaviour. Students who consistently demonstrate good conduct, academic effort, and community spirit may be recognised through:
- Verbal praise and written commendations from teachers.
- Certificates and awards presented at school assemblies.
- Positive reports to parents and guardians.
- Opportunities for student leadership roles.
4. Managing Unacceptable Behaviour
When a student's behaviour falls below the expected standards, Richmond Online School follows a staged approach to addressing the matter:
- Stage 1 — Informal Warning: A verbal reminder from the teacher about expected behaviour.
- Stage 2 — Formal Warning: A written warning communicated to the student and parent/guardian.
- Stage 3 — Behavioural Meeting: A meeting with the student, parent/guardian, and a senior member of staff to agree on a behaviour improvement plan.
- Stage 4 — Suspension or Exclusion: In serious or persistent cases, temporary suspension or permanent exclusion may be considered.
5. Bullying and Harassment
Richmond Online School has a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, harassment, and discrimination of any kind. All reports of bullying are taken seriously and investigated promptly. Students found to be engaging in bullying behaviour will face disciplinary action in accordance with this policy.
